Why Buy Local Food?
15/11/2010 14:21:53
John
A lot has been made of buying local in recent times, especially when it comes down to the environmental aspect of shopping and buying locally. Not only is it cutting down hugely on food miles and the carbon footprint of individual food items, it is also keeping money local and supporting the local economy and businesses.
Here at beelocal , we allow you to buy meat online and buy groceries online from the best local food and drink suppliers in the Lake District, thus, we are supporting the South Lakes economy and cutting down hugely on the massive food miles that many items you find in a supermarket carry with them! It was only today that it was reported by Cumbria Tourism that the Lake District saw a shocking loss in revenue of £15.4million due to the floods of the past 12 months, so what better time to buy local than now?
Here is a great article by Veg Box Recipes which explains "why buy local food?"
beelocal lets you shop from 25 of the best local suppliers in the South Lake District direct from one website. Save time and using your car by letting us do all the driving. Not only can you buy meat online, but you can buy basically anything that you need for a weekly shop and have it delivered within a 2 hour time slot of your choosing. We deliver all over the South Lake District and also into some parts of the Yorkshire Dales. We also have a nationwide delivery service delivering mail order meat boxes, food gifts, food hampers and local speciality foods from the Lake District. We deliver a true Taste of the Lakes wherever you are!

beelocal Celebrates Its First Birthday
04/10/2010 11:28:32
John
beelocal is today celebrating its first birthday!
We started out back in October 2009 as a grocery delivery service for local food delivered to the people of Cumbria and the Lake District.
Working with and alongside local butchers, greengrocers, bakers, breweries, and speciality food producers; all independant and local to the south Lake District, we built a platform from which the public are able to buy meat online and much more online from local retailers without any hassle, freeing up their precious time to spend it with their families and to save money on travel at a time when petrol is at a premium.
Now, a year later, we have extended our service to sending Lake District food out nationwide via mail order all over the UK for people to enjoy and we are also supplying food and drink to holiday makers who are staying in holiday cottages in the Lake District and we are making their holiday expereince all that much more memorable!
If you have been one of the many fortunate customers of beelocal over the past twelve months, we hope you truly enjoyed the delicious food that the Lake District has to offer... and for all those who have set to sample the delights we can bring, sign up now with us here and let us serve you up a treat and have delicious local produce delivered to your home within 24 hours! It could not be more simpler.

25/04/2009 15:26:51
Matthew
The beelocal team have been busy searching the country for a region with a fantastic selection of independent retailers and suppliers, as well as a community that are proud of their area and all that it has to offer.
All of us at beelocal are very happy to announce that the region that we are going to launch in is the South Lakes Region. Click to see the South Lakes region map.
We believe that the extensive selection of independent retailers and producers who are passionate about what they do, as well as the strong sense of community spirit, make the South Lakes Region an ideal location for a local shopping service of this nature - the first of its kind!
You will soon be able to shop from your favourite local shops and producers in and around:

- Staveley
- Grange-over-Sands

About us
15/02/2009 14:41:43
David
Back in February of 2008, the founder of beelocal, Andrew Redmayne, was at a friend’s BBQ when the host made a point of saying that the meat may not be up to the usual high standard, as they did not have time to get to their local butcher, and had to buy it from a nearby supermarket instead.
This got Andrew thinking that there must be another way to shop locally that fits in with the busy lifestyles of today. A year down the line, and with a lot of hard work, research and investment, beelocal are preparing to launch their local online shopping service!
The beelocal team:
The beelocal team consists of 4 people:
Andrew Redmayne, who is the founder of beelocal, is the chairman of a successful cumbria-based recruitment business. Andrew is overseeing the whole project, bringing his years of managerial experience to the team.
Matt Mavir, who has known Andrew and myself for over 20 years now, and runs a successful web business as well as a successful web development agency. Matt is overseeing the web development aspect of the project, in addition to being heavily involved with the day to day tasks of setting up beelocal.
Andy Hindmarch, who is Matt’s right hand man in his web development business, and has an impressive career history within the web development and programming industry. Andy is involved with the development of the beelocal website, to ensure that the site is as functional and customer friendly as we could possibly hope for.
Then there is me, David Redmayne. I am Andrew’s son, and after hearing my dad’s idea about a local online shopping service, I threw myself at the challenge of making beelocal a reality. For the past year I have dedicated all my time to the task of setting up beelocal, being involved with all aspects of the project, from meeting with leading retailers, to creating logistics solutions.
As I am sure you are aware, all of us at the beelocal team feel passionately about local shops, local shopping, and local communities. beelocal is our way of trying to make a difference in these tough times, and we believe that beelocal will be a great service for local shops and communities to have. We hope you feel the same!
